On the authority of Hazrat Abdullah bin Masoud, may Allah be pleased with him, the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

Whoever recites one letter from the Holy Qur’an, there is one good deed in return for him, and this good deed is equal to ten good deeds.  Alif-laam-meem is not a letter, but Alif is a separate letter, Lam is a separate letter and Meem is a separate letter.
